So here's a serious confession - my love of scrap booking has been derailed... by life!
First it was work. Then it was getting sick for a couple weeks. Then, it was being behind. So behind, in fact, that its almost embarrassing.
I have two beautifully assembled SC kits that are still neatly stacked and packaged, sitting there, looking at me. **sigh**
I am determined to get back on track. Maybe this coming weekend. Scrapping at night has been difficult because of long work days, but I might be able to enjoy doing one layout per night. I don't think I will be caught up.
Plus, I am anticipating the new SC kit in the next couple of weeks. In order to not feel so overwhelmed, I think I must put some stuff in the ever-growing give-away pile. If I save it, I drive myself nutso trying to use it all.

Work-Schmork
So the content this week will be light on layouts.
Work trip is seriously interfering with creativity.
Hopefully, I'll have the weekend to be scrap happy and play with all the lovely things that I got in my SC kit this month. Horray!
I still have scraps from last month that I want to use, I just loved that kit so much, I could almost marry it! :)

Another great project from LollyChops, derived from the Ali Edwards Project that I posted yesterday. Instructions for these beautiful hybrids can be found at the LollyChops link above.
The asymmetrical design is very cool as well. Hmmm, maybe I can use this sort of thing in a layout? I may try that tonight!

Scorpios and Scrap Happy
After a long and intense day at work, I got home last night to find:
In addition to a blazingly beautiful kit this month...THIS Martha Stewart punch I ordered was also in the box!
So, on my ride into work today, I was thinking about how much I love my MS punches. I do. They're so feminine and girly (which is not always me) and they always help me add that dimension and little something to my pages.
I get on my page here to profess my affection and I have a comment from SC designer Sasha Farina! I die! :) Her blog is awesome and today she's professing her love for Martha's butterfly punches as well! So, I'll just agree with Sasha, my fellow Scorpio!
I will leave you with this inspiration... discovered when I was looking for the photo above:

February Layouts - Studio Calico Kit
In anticipation of my new kit coming in the mail (maybe tomorrow!), I thought I would post my layouts from the Studio Calico kit from February. Which I loved.
Loved.
Seriously.
I may have a couple more coming, but I'm still working on them.
(I am also practicing some blog security, so forgive the "watermark" on the layouts. )

Italian Alabaster Eggs from Williams-Sonoma. Check out the color combos in these trays!
These two crates are beautiful, although they might be a bit too basic to get good pop on a page. But the assorted colors set of 24 eggs really has some great color combo potential.
I am going to see what I can make with the new SC kit and these colors.

Scrapbook Style: Color Combos
Color combination is the most difficult for me.
When it comes to combining patterned papers, pictures and embellishments, I feel like I go "too simple" or "too busy." I think picking the correct colors is essential.
Some designers are naturally gifted to this end. I am not.
I definitely have found some inspiration in other layouts, but I need something more simple.
So, I find my inspiration with the pros:
I love this layout because I think its very me. I love the combo of these colors. I love the pictures of me and my new puppy at the beach that I grew up on. The only thing missing, of course, is my husband. :)

There's nothing better than some free catalog inspiration! Right?
I went through my catalogs and pulled out pictures I liked. Then I stacked the pages into similar groups. (Dark colors, strong lines in one pile. Light colors, overstuffed furniture in another.)
There was DEFINITELY a theme... Do you think I like beige, green and teal or what? I swear I did NOT do this on purpose!

I've been doing this for about 5 months. To be honest, I do not really see myself in my layouts.
It was beginning to frustrate me.
I was getting discouraged.
I wasn't connecting with what I was creating.
I needed to develop and establish my own style. Easier said then done, right?
I've tried minimalist. Traditional. Less Color. More Color. Multiple Photos.
They were all pretty, but I wasn't really connecting. I loved the paper, the embellishments, the pictures, but didn't LOVE it together.
So, on a trip to Leesburg, Virginia, I found a "muse." Several Beautiful Shops!
I said to one owner, "I could just move into your store. I could live here." It was true. Her store was beautiful. It wasn't 100% me, but it was like 85% me. Here are some pictures that I took:
When I got home, I realized THAT was the look I LOVE!
I like order and clean, but with layers of complimentary colors.
I love pretty, but not too girly.
I like faded versions of primary colors, but not quite pastels.
I think.... still working on it.
So, try taking a picture in your favorite store and then print out the picture.
What is it that you like? The colors? The "layers"? The layouts? The staging? The flowers? The Lines? The chippy paint? The contrasts in styles?
So I took what I loved and I came up with some layouts that I really like. Not totally in love, but I'm getting there....
